Buying Into Your Community
Purpose: To raise funds for the MLKCC while encouraging people
to buy from local merchants and businesses.
Selling Point: Two good deeds in one: Support local businesses
and contribute to the vital programs of the MLKCC at the same time.
This is an easy way for shoppers to buy into their community while supporting local businesses. Everyone wins.
Program Summary: Merchants and other local businesses designate a product or service for which 10% of all sales proceeds is donated to the MLKCC. The 10% Returns graphic is placed on products (or service descriptions) that are selected for the program by the participating business. This program succeeds by making it real simple for businesses to participate and for people to contribute.
Examples:
a restaurant could designate one popular menu item, or
a bookstore can offer it on all books by local authors, or
an optometrist can offer it with an eye exam, or
a pet groomer can offer it with flea dips, or
a salon can offer it on all facials, or
a liquor store can offer it with all local wine and beer, or
any merchant can place it on an item it wants to promote or showcase
The participating business can use the 10% Returns graphic to call attention to a particular product or service in order to generate more sales. It can be placed on more than one product, and it can move from product to product at the discretion of the merchant/business owner.
This is an honor based system, with the participating businesses responsible for tracking their sales and remitting payments to the MLKCC each month. A simple licensing agreement is signed by both parties, outlining their respective responsibilities. Essentially, the business pays a 10% licensing fee for use of the 10% Returns graphic on its merchandise or in its sales literature and to participate in the program. All donations are tax deductible (MLKCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization).

1. Download the 10% Returns Licensing Agreement. Sign and return two copies to the MLKCC by mail.
2. Download the 10% Returns graphic and a poster that describes the program.
3. The graphic can be imported into Avery or Word label templates to be reproduced as stickers, or it can be imported into any graphics program for printing with related promotional materials. Round stickers can be used (Avery formats 5407, 5247, or 5737) or it can be printed on rectangular label stock and cut into squares.
