Volunteer at The Center

Hunger Services

The Breakfast program, which serves a hot meal to anyone who needs one, Monday through Friday, needs volunteers to help set up, serve and clean up, from 8am to 10am each morning.

The Feed a Friend Food Pantry needs volunteers to serve as extra hands every day of the week between 10am and 2pm, our peak hours. Volunteers help to fill food packages for clients who visit the Center seeking assistance, stock shelves, take inventory, and perform other vital work. The Center only has 1 staff person in the food pantry, so extra hands are welcome and always needed!

Our Holiday Basket program needs volunteers to run food, toy, and clothing drives between October and January, and volunteers are also needed to help sort these donations as they come in and to help put together holiday baskets for needy families.

During the summer, our Food Pantry Express program needs a total of 8-10 volunteers one day per week to help operate our “farmer’s market”-style fresh produce program, supported by the RI Community Food Bank. The Pantry Express helps an average of 150 households each week with fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables.

Interested volunteers should contact Jane Maloney, Food Services Manager, at jmaloney@mlkccenter.org, or at 846-4828.

Middle School Students come in for help Monday – Friday from 2pm to 6pm. High School students come in Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

We are always looking for new ways to serve the community. If you have a specific skill you’d like to share (chess club? music lessons? craft project) or an idea for an outreach program or workshop, please contact Amanda Frye Leinhos, Executive Director, at amanda@mlkccenter.org, or at 846-4828.
