 Got Food?

If you have recently lost your job, if your cupboards are bare, if this is a tough time of year for you, if you recently had unexpected expenses, the MLK Community Center is here for you.

You don’t have to need food any less than your neighbor.  If you need food, please visit our Food Pantry or Breakfast Program.

The Breakfast Program provides our neighbors with a nutritious start to their day.  Breakfast is served from 8:30-9:30, Monday through Friday.  All are welcome.

The Feed a Friend Food Pantry is available to anyone in Newport County in need of food assistance.  We are open from 10am – 2pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Our pantry operates on a client-choice model, allowing our clients to choose the food that best meets their cultural and dietary needs.  In addition to non-perishable food items, fresh produce, bread, frozen meat, and refrigerated items are usually available.  We supply hygiene products to all our clients and supply shelter packs to our homeless neighbors.

As a member agency of the RI Community Food Bank, we are the Newport distribution center for the Pantry Express, providing fresh produce to our neighbors every Tuesday from July through October.  We are also fortunate to receive fresh produce from local farms and community gardens.

During the Thanksgiving and Holiday seasons, we provide Holiday Baskets to our neighbors in need. Each basket contains the traditional holiday meal, plus enough food to feed the family during the holiday break.  We also provide baskets of toys to local children.
