HOLIDAY HEROES in SANTA'S WORKSHOP

(Not the North Pole... Newport County!)

If you asked a kiddo where Santa's Workshop is, they might say "the North Pole," but Santa's Workshop is actually a lot closer than you think. In fact, it's right here in Newport, at the MLK.

Our Santa's Workshop and Holiday Meal Pantry are officially underway here at the MLK Community Center! Pictured above are our Elves in Chief, Lisa (left) and Sarah (right), who have been working since September (!) spending countless hours sorting and organizing gifts, pre-bundling gifts, setting up the Workshop to Elf-level standards. Every day this week, they've escorted grateful moms and dads of nearly 800 local kids through Santa's Workshop, with the help of a small core group of volunteers. Families are also getting fresh produce, milk, eggs and rolls along with a supermarket gift card for their holiday meal. (On Monday and Tuesday of next week, we'll help seniors and others without kids.)

To keep everyone safe, gifts are pre-bundled and parents are receiving more gift cards than in prior years. For kids from birth to age 12, parents choose one gift bundle and one gift card. For teens aged 13-17, parents are choosing three gift cards.

(Pointy) hats off to our Elves and their helpers, and huge thanks to all of you who have donated toys and gifts and gift cards and cash. You have made it possible for us to bring much-needed joy this very difficult holiday season.

You are all our holiday heroes!
