It's that time of the year again: Giving Tuesday is almost here

#GivingTuesday Just 10 days away, Giving Tuesday is almost here and we're once again asking for your help in supporting our amazing community together. As you reflect on Thanksgiving festivities and begin your holiday shopping, please consider the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and the 4,998 of your Newport County neighbors we helped last year. We can only feed hungry people in our community, help our children excel and help neighbors embrace healthy lifestyles with your help. We have a goal of raising $4,998 this Giving Tuesday November 30 –– one dollar for each person we served in 2020. Every gift matters and thanks to the incredible generosity of Gail Jacobs and Roy Williams, every $1 gifted to the center on Giving Tuesday will be matched at a 2:1 ratio up to $9,996. Isn't that incredible? Want to get a jump on your part and give back to your community on the global day of giving and generosity? You don't need to wait til November 30. Click the button below now and donate. Thank you!

Some holiday magic connected by Santa's Workshop

This week at the Center, A nearly fifty-year-old Newport family-owned business dropped off the company’s annual donation to Santa’s Workshop. As two employees unloaded the truck filled to the brim with toys and games they shared a story: “We had the most amazing thing happen…The woman at the check-out commented on how many toys we were buying. We told her we were donating them to the MLK. She thanked us and told us she was getting toys for her kids at the MLK. It really said something to us that she felt comfortable sharing that she got help at the MLK. It was a really special moment. It brought it all home why we do this!” It's that magical time of year where moments like this occur every day at the Center.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...everywhere you go"

Thanksgiving isn't even here and yet Santa's helpers have already arrived at the Center preparing for Santa's Workshop next month.

There will certainly be more content coming out of Santa's Workshop soon, but for now, our helpers are busy making sure over 800 children will have toys for Christmas.

Interested in making Christmas a special time for the children in out community? You've come to the right place!

Santa's Workshop takes place on Wednesday, December 15 –– Friday, December 17. We kindly ask that you deliver your new, unwrapped toys by Monday, November 29, or as soon as possible.

FOOD PANTRY FEATURE: Granola, protein and breakfast bars!

What's your favorite nutrition bar of choice? Personally, we absolutely love all kinds of nutrition bars and we're not even picky about variety. Why aren't we picky, you ask? Great question. Because nutrition bars of any sorts make for a lightweight, shelf-stable way to get essential nutrients and calories! Some clients struggle with homelessness and we love being able to offer something called "friend packs" here at the Center. What is a "friend pack," you ask? Well, it's simple! A friend pack is something we give to our friends at the Center who need a little extra energy between visits to the food pantry. The food pantry accepts donations from Monday –– Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

This holiday season shop local and support the MLK!

Once again Newport Restaurant Group's (NRG) annual holiday gift card sale benefits local hunger relief organizations like the MLK. From our friends at NRG: "There are many in our community where food and nutritional insecurity is an everyday struggle. Born from our employee-owner’s desire to support the greater good, the Newport Restaurant Group proudly donates $2 for every gift card order sold to local food banks and area non-profits committed to building a sustainable and local food supply for those in need."
